127,42,39,769 is the population of India!

Last Saturday, on World Population Day, India recorded a population of 127,42,39,769 — which constitutes 17.25% of the global population. At this rate, India is expected to become the most populated country by 2050.

According to this article, Dr. Jayakanth- MD (Internal Medicine),  Consultant at Apollo Clinic highlighted potential health threats caused due to overpopulation which include a rise in incidence of infections diseases and an increase in pollution levels.

Hardly good news for people living  in cities such as New Delhi (already called toxic gas chambers).

The Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh or National Population Stabilisation Fund (NPSF), an autonomous body under the Union Health Ministry has raised concerns about over-population related problems, if the rate persists.

At a function on Saturday, Health Minister JP Nadda stressed on the involvement of development partners and NGOs in assisting government to achieve population stabilisation goals.

According to data from NPSF, the total fertility rate (TFR) in India has seen a decline and stood at 2.3 in 2013 although the decline is not consistent.
