TB, diagnostics and government

The Wall Street Journal has developed an obsession with TB in India. It is an important subject but enough to justify five big articles in the last year? The most recent (from yesterday) is again severely critical of the Government of India. The gist of the WSJ allegations is that Government is dragging its feet rather than co-operate with a variety of international organisations. The latest story suggests that GoI has refused to endorse a brilliant international campaign to deliver world-class diagnostics through private-sector providers. This would normally be the kind of story to get Indian journalists salivating but the Indian press, which is usually willing to haul government over the coals on any pretext, has largely ignored the WSJ’s zealous campaign. Very odd.
