Seven lakh new cancer cases emerge in India every year

According to the the Indian Society for Clinical Research (ISCR) in this article, seven lakh new cancer cases emerge every year in the country, killing over 3.5 lakh people. This figure is expected to rise in the next 10-15 years and is based on the WHO World Cancer Report 2015. Suneela Thatte, President, ISCR, has said that encouraging more clinical research in cancer can increase patients’ access to more effective and affordable treatments. According to Dr. C S Pramesh, India needs to focus research and resources on finding treatments for the more prevalent cancers in India which include head and neck, breast, cervical and gall bladder. Dr. Pramesh is the Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Department of Surgical Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai.
